Sprouting Raw Nuts

What’s even better than raw nuts?  SPROUTED raw nuts!  Sprouting nuts is something we love to do at The Movement.  The health benefits of sprouting nuts are many, but just a few are that it makes the nuts easier to digest, there are more nutrients available, and it takes away the enzyme inhibitors.  So we wanted to share this simple recipe….

Ingredients:
Raw Nuts (almonds, pecans, and walnuts are our favorite)almonds
Filtered Water
Sea Salt (pinch or two)

Place as many nuts as you want in a bowl with the water and sea salt.  Use enough water to cover the nuts with about an inch or two of water on top.   Cover the bowl with a cheese cloth or towel.  Let it sit out on the counter for 12 hours.  Then, drain the water out of the bowl and dry the nuts.  An easy way to dry the nuts is to put them on a baking tray and stick them in the oven on the lowest possible setting.  Most ovens can get down to 150 degrees, but if you can get it down to 115 degrees, that’s even better!  You could also use the warming drawer, if your oven has one.  Leave them in for 12 hours and then take them out.  You can season them with sea salt or just eat them as-is.  The nuts should be dried, perfectly crispy, and smelling wonderful!

How To Make your own Raw Nut Butter: After you have dried the nuts in the oven, you can put them in a food processor and grind them up.  Add local raw honey, organic cinnamon, and you’ll have the most incredible raw, homemade nut butter!  It’s a great treat with carrots and/or apples or just by the spoonful!
