Sweet Surprises Part II
You have got to love how processed junk manufacturers try and trick us into consuming their products (notice i have said nothing about food – BECAUSE IT IS NOT FOOD!)
“The US food system is the second largest advertiser in the American economy and is a leading buyer of television, newspaper, magazine, billboard, and radio advertisements”…and did you know that “Over 80% of US grocery products are branded.” Currently over $10 billion is spent on advertising/marketing to children and adolescents and of that $3 billion is spent on packaging especially designed for children!
It’s no surprise that these companies would take advantage of the wonderful innocence of children, but what about us adults? You must be saying surely they can’t fool me! Well think again…
I am no longer surprised that these “ad wizards” are trying to con us but the fact that our own FDA (remember I said last time the Government agency that claims to be in place to “protect and promote YOUR health”) follows right along with these companies! Here is a great example from the HFCS website…
{Are some caloric (nutritive) sweeteners more natural than others?
No. All the major caloric (nutritive) sweeteners including sugar, honey and high fructose corn syrup require processing to make the final sweetener. All are considered natural food ingredients under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s definition of the term “natural.” Under FDA rules, “natural” means that “nothing artificial or synthetic (including all color additives regardless of source) has been included in, or has been added to, a food that would not normally be expected to be in the food.”}
Funny that is what the FDA calls natural – here is what a dictionary calls natural
“in accordance with nature”
“existing in or in conformity with nature or the observable”
“functioning or occurring in a normal way; lacking abnormalities or deficiencies”
According to the dictionary’s definition of “natural” High Fructose Corn Syrup is anything but natural. It is a 16 step process that involves numerous chemical enzyme breakdown processes which all are derived from genetically modifed materials, several vats of “murky fermenting liquid”, fungus, chemical tweaking, and even a step of what is called liquid chromatography!?! Sounds real “natural” to me!
When I want something sweet I eat an apple! You know how to make that sweetness? Put a seed into the ground, add a healthy serving of rain and sun and Voila – “NATURAL” SWEETNESS!

I am thankful for YOU GUYS!
